I'm reading a book about New York City, called Lost New York by Nathan Silver and am loving the beautiful buildings and mourning their loss. There were so many amazing buildings in this city prior to the 1950's. Many of the buildings that were built in the 1700's were gone by the 1800's. I love learning about the history of this great city, but find it tragic that so much history has been lost due to development. A good many of the original buildings were replaced by apartment houses that were no where near as beautiful and architecturally unique. If you are interested in history, and would like to learn more, visit your local library or check out this book.
